Taitung, located in eastern Taiwan, is famous for its stunning natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Many of its residents are from Indigenous communities, with unique lifestyles and close-knit communities.

Taitung St. Mary’s Hospital was established in 1950 by the Catholic Bethlehem Mission Society. It has been dedicated to providing medical care for the poor and underserved populations.

The hospital is not only a key medical facility in the area but also a pioneer in palliative care. It has a specialized hospice ward offering comprehensive care for terminally ill patients.

Since 2013, Aurora Healthcare has supported Taitung Christian Hospital, starting with the donation of a breast MRI mobile unit. This equipment has since helped complete over 20,000 MRI scans, helped detect over 200 breast cancers in their stages and assisted these patients by referring them to larger hospitals for surgery and other treatment.  St. Mary’s hospital team also worked with these patients for their recovery to return to their healthy life living.

On October 11, 2024, the Aurora Care Foundation further their support by donating stocks of Aurora Healthcare, along with five pearl necklaces. Several board members joined the ceremony to witness the donation to reaffirm their vote of confidence as well as their deepest sincerity and appreciation of Taitung St. Mary’s hospital’s contribution to address the local healthcare need as a role model for many to follow.

In addition to its ongoing efforts in breast cancer prevention, Taitung St. Mary’s Hospital has long worked in the fields of palliative care and long-term care. The hospital’s director led guests on a tour of its recent developments, including the “Qinyuan” Spiritual Garden, the herb garden at the Health Farm, and the fitness center. These facilities aim not only to provide a comfortable environment for patients but also to help healthy people stay well. From health promotion to disease prevention, the hospital is making steady progress in every step.

Moreover, the hospital has set up the “Train the Trainer” program, a senior care training center that helps current caregivers receive advanced training, improving the quality of long-term care services.

With the recent stock donation, Taitung St. Mary’s Hospital will wisely use its resources and continue to collaborate with Aurora, creating more beautiful stories and bringing hope and care to those in need.
