News & EventsBREAST CARE SPECIALISTS OF ATLANTA FIRST IN U.S. TO OFFER PATIENTS TWO AURORA® DEDICATED BREAST MRI SYSTEMS AT A SINGLE LOCATION ATLANTA, GA. (September 22, 2008) – Aurora Imaging Technology Inc. today announced that for the first time, two Aurora® 1.5Tesla Dedicated Breast MRI Systems will be available to patients at one health care facility, greatly improving the quality of care and response time at the center. Breast Care Specialists LLC installed its first Aurora Breast MRI in 2005 and a second system this summer to meet the center’s growing patient needs, now totaling more than 27,000 patients annually. While breast cancer deaths are on the decline nationally, the Georgia Department of Community Health reports that more than 1,000 breast cancer mortalities occur annually in the state. In addition, the American Cancer Society (ACS) expects 4,910 women in Georgia to be diagnosed with breast cancer by the end of 2008 alone. Breast Care Specialists is a multidisciplinary practice that has been serving the continuing needs of breast cancer patients in Atlanta since 1999. The center renovated its facility to expand its practice and to accommodate the growing demand for a second Aurora Breast MRI, the only Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared dedicated breast MRI system exclusively designed for 3-D bilateral breast MRI. “As a diagnostic center, the majority of women come to us with newly diagnosed breast cancer, a new clinical problem or imaging abnormality, or because they are at increased risk for developing breast cancer. Therefore, it’s important to be able to address patient needs in a timely fashion,” said Pamela Donlan, M.D., radiologist, Breast Care Specialists. “With a second Aurora Breast MRI, we hope to reduce appointment wait time and as a result, expedite treatment planning.” A unique feature of the Aurora Breast MRI is its ability to provide immediate answers for patients with the system’s computer-automated and fully integrated MR-guided biopsy technology, AuroraBIOPSY™. This exclusive technology accurately determines needle placement and virtually eliminates the possibility of human error, resulting in a seamless procedure. An exclusive precision gradient coil design provides a large homogeneous elliptical field of view to image both breasts, the chest wall and axillae in a single bilateral scan, which produces outstanding images in both clarity and contrast.
