News & EventsBREAST MRI OF THE MAIN LINE MAKES AVAILABLE THE AURORA® DEDICATED BREAST MRI SYSTEM FOR PHILADELPHIA RESIDENTS NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA. (September 15, 2008) – Aurora Imaging Technology Inc. today announced that the Aurora® 1.5Tesla Dedicated Breast MRI System has been installed and is now available at Breast MRI of the Main Line, servicing the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia. This is the first installation of an Aurora Breast MRI on the Main Line of Philadelphia, and the second in the state of Pennsylvania where breast cancer is the leading cancer among female residents, and the second highest cause of female cancer deaths, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. An estimated 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the U.S. during 2008, and 9,410 of those are expected to be in Philadelphia, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). As part of its most recent breast cancer screening guidelines, the ACS recommends breast MRIs for women who are at high risk of breast cancer. “Breast MRI of the Main Line is committed to using the most advanced medical imaging technologies while providing a comfortable and private setting for our patients,” said Kenneth E. Brumberger, M.D., co-medical director, Breast MRI of the Main Line. “Intended exclusively for breast imaging, the Aurora Breast MRI is designed for a woman’s anatomy and can detect even the smallest abnormalities in breast tissue. We’re thrilled with the integration of the Aurora Breast MRI into our center as it will help us meet the unique needs of our female clientele.” “Our breast MRI images captured by the Aurora Breast MRI are enhanced by the industry’s only specifically designed breast MRI software, AuroraCAD™, which aids in each step of the imaging process,” said Kimberly Kubek, M.D., co-medical director, Breast MRI of the Main Line. The Aurora Breast MRI is the only Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared dedicated breast MRI system specifically designed for the detection, diagnosis and management of breast disease. Among its many exclusive technical benefits, the Aurora Breast MRI features bilateral 3-D SpiralRODEO™ technology that provides improved acquisition efficiency that is three times greater than traditional whole body MRI, resulting in dramatically improved resolution along with a decrease in scanning time for better dynamics. “The introduction of the SpiralRODEO technology to the Aurora Breast MRI was the final piece for us in deciding to choose this system for our facility,” continued Dr. Brumberger. “This exclusive technology allows for a faster scan sequence while giving us a higher image quality.” Since the installation of the Aurora Breast MRI at Breast MRI of the Main Line this summer, the center already sees several patients a day who have been referred for breast MRI. “Both nationwide and statewide breast cancer statistics are falling, and it is our hope that with the increased usage of advanced early detection tools like the Aurora Breast MRI, this downward trend will continue,” said Olivia Ho Cheng, president and chief executive officer, Aurora Imaging Technology. “With an exceptional team of imaging professionals and the addition of the Aurora Breast MRI, Breast MRI of the Main Line is well-poised to provide advanced medical imaging for the Philadelphia area, to aid in the fight against breast disease.” About Breast MRI of the Main Line Breast MRI of the Main Line is a joint venture between Main Line Diagnostic Imaging of Bryn Mawr, Great Valley and Downingtown, and the Diagnostic Breast Center.
