Aurora Imaging Technology Announces SpiralRODEOT - A Revolution in Breast MRI

North Andover, MA – October 17, 2006 – Breast MRI technology leader Aurora Imaging Technology, Inc. announces a major milestone in breast MR Imaging – SpiralRODEO™.  Now, you no longer have to choose between higher image quality or shorter scan time – SpiralRODEO gives you both!

Dr. Steven Harms, Medical Director for Aurora states that "in the past, attempts to increase resolution in breast MRI have encountered a tradeoff—better resolution has required a sacrifice in temporal resolution (dynamics). Now, because of SpiralRODEO’s improved acquisition efficiency (three times greater than traditional 3D Fourier Transform reconstruction), resolution is dramatically increased along with a significant decrease in scan time for better dynamics.  This has translated into significant improvements in diagnostic capabilities within my own breast practice."

This innovation is achieved while still maintaining all the contrast advantages of traditional RODEO® breast MRI—a superior fat and ductal tissue suppression technique.  The results of this new breakthrough are images far superior in clarity and contrast than ever before possible—actually offering signal improvement comparable with that of a 4.5T system—with significantly less cost!

"SpiralRODEO is an exclusive Aurora technology," states Olivia Cheng, CEO of Aurora. Only the Aurora® 1.5T Dedicated Breast MRI System with its special combination of precision gradients, unique ellipsoid "sweet spot," and proprietary transmit and receive RF coils allows you to see breast images as you’ve never seen them before.  "These are truly exciting times for Aurora," adds Cheng.

The Aurora System is the only fully integrated MRI system designed specifically and exclusively to image the breast and optimized for breast imaging and interventional procedures.  Some of the proprietary and distinguishing features of the Aurora System include: 1) an ellipsoid magnetic shim that provides coverage of both breasts, the chest wall and bilateral axillary lymph nodes;  2) a precision gradient coil with the high linearity required for high resolution spiral reconstruction; 3) a patient-handling table that provides patient comfort and procedural utility; 4) a fully integrated Interventional System for MRI guided biopsy and localization; and 5) the user-friendly AuroraCAD™ computer-aided image display system designed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of diagnostic interpretations.

The Aurora System is designed to be located within the breast care center where it is readily available to specialized physicians and their patients.  As a diagnostic imaging tool, the Aurora® 1.5T Dedicated Breast MRI System with Bilateral SpiralRODEO™ is ideal for a wide range of indications in breast disease management including, but not limited to:

  • Detecting or excluding the existence of cancer in higher risk women
  • Characterizing indeterminate clinical or mammographically detected abnormalities
  • Determining the extent of cancer for treatment planning
  • Detecting occult cancer
  • Evaluating patients for residual disease following surgery
  • Monitoring cancer response and the extent of residual disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy
  • Evaluating implant integrity and detecting cancer in women with breast augmentation
